Moving from India to Abu Dhabi is easier when employment verification, family documents and cash-flow planning happen before travel. The most useful preparation depends on the actual employer and residence route, not a general promise that a visa will be arranged.
Verify the offer
Confirm the employing legal entity, workplace and written compensation. Ask whether accommodation, transport and dependant cover are included and how those benefits are delivered. Use official employment channels to check applicable offer and permit procedures before accepting instructions from an intermediary.
Prepare family and education records
Check spelling across passports, certificates and the offer. Ask the receiving UAE authority for the required attestation or recognition process. Keep school reports and vaccination records accessible if children are moving. Do not buy an unnecessary document package before knowing the receiving authority's requirements.
Budget across both countries
Include continuing family support, loan payments, temporary accommodation and the cost of transferring money. Use a realistic exchange-rate margin for planning rather than a fixed conversion promise. Keep enough accessible funds to manage a delayed first salary without missing commitments at home.
Check whether emigration clearance applies
India's Ministry of External Affairs distinguishes passports marked Emigration Check Required, commonly called ECR, from passports without that endorsement. Its guidance identifies the UAE among the countries where clearance is relevant for ECR holders travelling for employment. Check your own passport and intended travel purpose through the current official process. Do not assume that a family member's experience establishes your position.
A UAE employment permission and Indian emigration clearance serve different functions. Resolve both where applicable. If an agent is involved, check registration through the official Indian system and preserve its full details. Ask whether you are dealing with the registered business itself or someone claiming to represent it. Keep the written employment agreement and official payment records outside the agent's messaging account.
Do not use a visit entry as a substitute for work authorisation. The UAE government warns that tourist or visit status does not permit employment. Confirm the employer's responsible authority, especially where a free zone or another specific employment regime is involved, rather than assuming every company uses the same process.
Obtain document instructions for the intended service
A professional licence application, a residence application and a school's admission file can need different forms of evidence. Ask who will receive each record. Confirm how education certificates issued in India must be authenticated for that service before paying for an attestation package. Attestation of signatures and seals does not by itself settle every professional recognition requirement.
For a family move, check birth and marriage records against the travellers' passports. Record any spelling or name order differences and ask the recipient how they should be explained. Carry required originals and protect a separate backup. Avoid putting the only usable set in a household shipment whose delivery date is uncertain.
Review accounts and commitments in India
Tell your bank about the proposed move and ask what changes your actual residence status requires for existing accounts, investments and contact details. Indian financial and tax treatment depends on the relevant rules and your circumstances; UAE residence does not settle those questions automatically. Obtain qualified advice where you retain property, business income or complex investments.
Keep enough access to your Indian mobile number to update authentication securely. Test international card access before departure and ask about spending limits or foreign transaction costs. Keep a reserve for obligations that continue in India while initial UAE costs are being paid. Build that reserve from your household's calendar rather than a generic savings target.
Match benefits to your arrival needs
Ask whether the employer books travel or reimburses it later, and whether reimbursement includes family tickets. Find out whether temporary accommodation is a private apartment, a room or shared staff housing. Obtain the address and end date before deciding that it covers your needs. A transport benefit is only useful if its route and operating hours fit the actual worksite.
For families, compare school availability and housing together. A desired curriculum may be available in the city without a place being available for the required year group. Request written admission information before using a particular school to choose a home. If the employee travels first, agree how the household in India will be supported during the overlap.
Use the family relocation plan for those shared decisions. Keep the India departure checks as a distinct part of the plan so they do not disappear inside the UAE onboarding list.
Keep contact details for the Indian mission and the relevant Indian departure authority in the same file as the UAE employer. Use those official channels for a problem involving recruitment or retained documents, rather than assuming the recruiter is the only route to help. Share the employer name, agreement and travel plan with a trusted person before departure, while keeping account passwords and sensitive financial access private.
If leaving a home occupied by relatives, agree who handles repairs, documents and essential correspondence after you travel. Confirm how an urgent expense is authorised and paid. Keeping those responsibilities explicit reduces the chance that an otherwise manageable UAE arrival becomes distracted by an avoidable problem with the household remaining in India.
