How Long Does Green Visa Processing Take?

There is no reliable single end-to-end Green Visa processing time for every Abu Dhabi applicant. ICP publishes a service-completion duration for residence issuance, but document preparation, eligibility checks, work permission, status changes and identity procedures can take place outside that narrow transaction. A two-day service estimate should not be advertised as a guaranteed two-day relocation.

The published service duration

The ICP residence issuance card shows a service-completion duration of two days at the October 2026 review. It is a shared issuance service covering multiple residence categories and asks users to select the appropriate category.

That figure describes the authority's service measure, rather than every action needed before and after filing. The public page does not support a promise that any Green applicant can begin with no documents on Monday and hold every required permission by Wednesday.

When receiving a quotation, ask what event starts the provider's estimated clock: payment, document collection, submission of a complete file or acceptance by the authority. Estimates using different starting events cannot be compared meaningfully.

Preparation can be the longest stage

A skilled employee may need a current contract, confirmation of the occupation, salary evidence and an accepted degree. An independent professional may need the prescribed permit and financial records covering the relevant periods. An investor may need updated company records and evidence of the contribution.

Obtaining those documents can involve employers, banks, universities or authorities outside the UAE. No residence service estimate controls how quickly a foreign institution supplies a replacement diploma. Identify such dependencies early instead of assuming they are included in immigration processing.

Separate tasks you can complete immediately from those awaiting another issuer. If several documents can be prepared at once, doing so may reduce elapsed time, but it does not shorten any official assessment or justify submitting inaccurate interim evidence.

Channel availability matters

At the October 2026 check, ADRO's Green Visa pages say nomination submissions through that office are unavailable. An unavailable channel has no useful processing promise. Check the live ICP route and ask how your category can currently be initiated.

Do not interpret a private agent's willingness to take an order as confirmation that a particular government submission channel is active. Your starting status affects the sequence

Someone outside the UAE may need preliminary permission to travel and complete the residence process. Someone inside under an existing residence needs to understand the approved transition. These situations can involve different transactions and dependencies.

Before cancelling a current permission, identify what lawful status will cover each stage. An application awaiting review is not automatically an extension of a visit or residence permission. Include dependants' status in the timetable because their expiry dates and applications may differ from yours.

Avoid making a non-refundable travel booking based solely on an agency's broad approval estimate. Where travel is unavoidable, ask the authority whether leaving or entering at that stage affects the application.

Requests for additional information

An incomplete or inconsistent file can require follow-up. Common practical issues include unreadable scans, mismatched names, an old contract or financial records that do not explain the claimed income. The authority may need clarification even when the applicant believes the headline requirements are met.

Keep the official request and respond directly to it. If a bank statement is missing a period, supplying unrelated invoices may not resolve the problem. Establish whether the requested correction can be made in the current application rather than opening another case without instructions.

A well-prepared file reduces avoidable questions; it does not guarantee approval or remove the authority's right to assess eligibility. Do not pay someone for a guarantee that no additional evidence will ever be requested.

Issuance and identity-card delivery are different milestones

ICP's steps describe notification of residence issuance followed by Emirates ID issuance and delivery through authorised couriers. A person may therefore receive a residence decision before the physical identity card arrives. Clarify which milestone matters for your employer, bank or other planned transaction.

Where a medical appointment or biometric step applies, book through the appropriate service and retain the reference. Completing that appointment is one dependency, not proof that the residence has already been approved.

Build a realistic personal timeline

Record preparation, official submission, any status transition, decision and identity-card steps separately. Put current permission expiry dates beside those stages. If a deadline becomes tight, seek guidance using the application number and explain the specific status risk.

The useful estimate is a sequence with named dependencies and current information. It is more reliable than a fixed number of days that silently assumes every document, permission and appointment is already complete.

Track elapsed time by dependency

Keep a dated log showing when each requested document was supplied and whether a response is awaited from the applicant, employer, bank or authority. This helps distinguish an application awaiting review from one awaiting missing evidence. When asking for an update, use the official reference and identify the last completed stage. A statement that the overall project has taken several weeks may be true while revealing little about the particular transaction the service team can investigate. Avoid opening duplicate cases merely to create a newer submission date.
