Understanding Green Visa Salary and Income Requirements

Green residence financial conditions differ by category.

Independent educational information. This publication does not provide immigration applications or individual legal advice. Confirm requirements with the responsible authority before acting.

Green Visa financial requirements differ by category. Skilled employees face a monthly salary test, independent workers face a historical annual earnings test or assessed financial solvency, and business investors must evidence the required contribution. These figures should not be mixed or converted into one supposed minimum income for every Abu Dhabi applicant.

Skilled employee salary

The ICP Green Residence Guide publishes a minimum salary of AED 15,000 per month or the equivalent in foreign currency for skilled employees. The applicant must also meet the employment-contract, occupational-level and education requirements.

Use the employment documents requested for the application. A headline compensation package can include different components, such as fixed pay, housing, commissions and reimbursements. If acceptance of a component affects whether you meet the threshold, ask the authority how the relevant salary is calculated. This guide does not invent a rule treating all allowances as salary or excluding them all.

A salary letter should describe the actual arrangement. If the bank credit differs because of a repayment or an expense reimbursement, explain the difference. Artificially selecting a high-payment month can obscure the regular pay that the authority needs to assess.

Freelance and self-employment income

The independent-work criterion is annual income during the previous two years of at least AED 360,000, or proof of financial solvency throughout residence. ADRO's freelancer guidance expressly presents the solvency route as an alternative.

The annual wording matters. Two years with AED 200,000 in each do not become qualifying years merely because their combined total exceeds AED 360,000. Likewise, dividing AED 360,000 by twelve produces an arithmetic average of AED 30,000, not an official requirement for identical freelance receipts every month.

Ask which historical periods and records the current service requires if your business accounts follow a different year-end. An official decision cannot be inferred from a spreadsheet that uses the most favourable twelve-month window without explaining it.

Revenue, earnings and transfers

Not every credit in an account is earned income. Transfers between your own accounts, loans, gifts and refunded deposits have different origins. A large account balance may support a solvency argument without proving freelance earnings for a particular year.

Where invoices and payments differ, create a reconciliation. For example, an invoice issued in December may be paid in January, while platform fees may be deducted before money reaches the bank. Keep the original dates and amounts, and ask which accounting treatment the authority expects rather than silently moving receipts between periods.

A company director should also distinguish the company's sales from the individual's earnings. Turnover may need to pay staff, rent, suppliers and taxes. Ownership of the company does not make every dirham of its revenue personal freelance income.

Foreign-currency evidence

The official requirements allow foreign-currency equivalents, but the reviewed guidance does not prescribe a universal conversion date or exchange-rate provider for every application. Keep the original currency visible and ask what conversion evidence should accompany it.

As an illustrative recordkeeping approach, a schedule can show the original receipt, the statement date and the conversion used for an explanatory AED total. Label it as an explanation, not an official conversion determination. This makes review possible without hiding a rate assumption inside a single rounded figure.

Financial solvency is not a published universal deposit

Do not rely on an unofficial claim that one savings amount qualifies everyone. The authority must confirm how solvency should be proved for the residence period. Resources may differ in accessibility, ownership and ability to support living costs.

An applicant relying on jointly held funds should clarify how their access is evidenced. Someone relying on an asset that cannot readily be sold should not present its headline value as cash already available. These are questions to resolve in the application, not reasons to invent additional official minimums.

Investor amounts concern capital rather than pay

For business investors, the detailed ICP issuance service states a company contribution of at least AED 1 million for the investor condition displayed there. A contribution is not a monthly salary, and a salary cannot automatically replace the investment evidence.

Confirm the selected Green investor category before relying on the number because the shorter Green overview does not repeat it. A shareholder's qualifying stake should be assessed separately from the entire company's capital or estimated valuation.

Make the financial file easy to understand

Identify the financial test first, then collect only evidence relevant to that test. State whether you rely on employment salary, historical independent earnings, solvency or investment. Use the Green Visa guide to check the accompanying non-financial conditions. Clear evidence cannot guarantee approval, but it prevents a correct financial position from being presented under the wrong category.

Do not count the same receipt twice

Suppose a client pays an invoice into a payment account and you later transfer that money to your UAE bank. Those are two movements of the same receipt, not two earnings events. A reconciliation should identify the original source and the subsequent transfer. Keep personal and business accounts distinguishable, especially where the same balance is also cited as savings. Clear ownership, dates and transaction references are more useful than a large unfiltered collection of credits that makes the claimed income impossible to trace.

For the employment documents accompanying the pay test, check the skilled employee requirements.
