Certificate attestation for an Abu Dhabi job should follow the receiving organisation's actual requirements and the current route for the document's issuing country. Attestation authenticates signatures and seals. It does not, by itself, establish academic recognition, professional eligibility or permission to start work.

Ask what the employer actually requires

Obtain a written list identifying the certificate, its intended use and the required authority. A request for an “attested degree” should specify whether the employer means Foreign Affairs authentication, MoHESR academic recognition, a professional regulator's verification or a combination.

Ask whether the degree certificate alone is needed or whether a transcript, professional qualification or other record is also required. Do not authenticate every document in your folder without a purpose. Each unnecessary service can add cost, courier handling and another opportunity for an inconsistent record.

For a regulated occupation, confirm the professional pathway as well. An employer may need authenticated documents for recruitment while the regulator requires primary-source verification through its own process. Completing the first does not automatically complete the second.

Check the issuing country and current route

Use the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs service and the relevant UAE mission's instructions for foreign-issued documents. Requirements can depend on the country, document and service arrangement. Avoid a universal sequence based on a friend's certificate from another jurisdiction.

The current Foreign Affairs service describes routes that can include digital attestation or an approved courier provider, depending on the issuing authority and document type. An electronic outcome does not necessarily mean an original physical certificate will never be collected or inspected.

For example, the UAE Consulate General in Karachi describes a digital arrangement for relevant Pakistan-issued documents that combines its attestation with UAE Foreign Affairs attestation, while still requiring the original document through the stated collection process. This country-specific example should not be copied as the rule for every other issuing country.

Check the certificate before sending it

Read the name, award title, institution, dates and any identification details. Compare them with your passport and other academic records. If a certificate contains an error, contact the issuer for the proper correction route. Editing a scan is not a legitimate solution.

For a genuine name change, retain the linking document and ask the recipient what it accepts. Where an institution has changed its name, an official explanation can help connect the older certificate to the current issuer. Keep these records separate from the certificate rather than attaching an unofficial alteration.

Create a full, legible scan before releasing an original. Include the reverse where it contains endorsements. Store the file securely and keep a list of the original documents handed to a courier or service provider. Use the official collection process and retain its tracking reference.

Understand translation and academic recognition

Ask the recipient whether a translation is needed and what form it must take. A translation explains the document in another language; it does not authenticate the underlying qualification. Keep the original-language certificate together with the accepted translation.

MoHESR academic recognition is another separate assessment where required. Its current terminology needs care: the ministry says its inside-UAE qualification service was previously called attestation and is now recognition. That naming history does not make Foreign Affairs authentication of a foreign degree identical to academic recognition.

Read how degree recognition works before paying for two services on the assumption that either can replace the other. Ask the receiving organisation to clarify any ambiguous wording first.

Apply through verified channels

Start from the official ministry or mission page, rather than a search advertisement that resembles a government service. Verify any approved provider through the official route. Check the quotation's breakdown and whether it covers only handling or includes the authority's service as well.

Use your own account where the service requires it. Do not share identity-app approvals, passwords or one-time codes with someone claiming to complete the process faster. An intermediary can explain administration without taking control of your digital identity.

Retain receipts, the application reference and the exact submitted documents. Treat advertised turnaround periods as conditional service information, not a guaranteed employment start date. Overseas issuance checks, missing records and courier arrangements can affect your practical schedule.

Verify the completed result

Download the complete attested document and check the certificate, attached authentication information and relevant reference. Use the official verification facility where available. A cropped screenshot or incomplete download may not contain what the employer needs.

Keep the final digital file unchanged and retain the original according to your own secure storage arrangements. Send the recipient a complete version through its verified channel. Ask whether the requested requirement is now satisfied or another specific assessment remains outstanding.

If the result is delayed or questioned, identify the exact stage and reference before escalating. Avoid paying a second provider simply because it promises certainty. A clear record of the issuer, route, submitted documents and outcome gives both you and the employer a practical basis for resolving the problem.
