Documents Required for an Abu Dhabi Green Visa Application

A Green residence document checklist should be built for the selected applicant category.

Independent educational information. This publication does not provide immigration applications or individual legal advice. Confirm requirements with the responsible authority before acting.

A Green Residence document file should prove identity and the conditions of the particular category selected. Abu Dhabi applicants should not use one undifferentiated checklist for employees, independent workers and investors. A complete employee file can still be unsuitable for a freelance application because the documents answer different eligibility questions.

Build the checklist from the live service

Start with the ICP Green Residence Guide to identify the route. Then open the residence issuance service and select the correct category. The public page combines several residence services, so not every condition or document shown belongs to a Green applicant.

Save the selected service name and the date of the checklist. If an adviser supplies a different list, ask which items are government requirements and which are documents the adviser wants for preliminary review. A document can be useful without being universally mandatory.

Identity and current status

ICP's issuance card lists passport and personal photograph, with a passport-validity condition of at least six months. Check the exact photographic specifications in the submission service. A photograph suitable for a professional profile may not meet identity-document standards.

Review current residence, entry and Emirates ID records where applicable. Someone applying from outside the country will not necessarily hold the same documents as a resident changing category. Use the checklist appropriate to the starting status rather than attaching an expired document simply to fill a field.

Names, dates of birth and passport numbers should be consistent across records. If a passport has been renewed, establish how the previous residence record will be linked to the new passport. Do not obscure an old number that the authority may need to trace the file.

Skilled employee evidence

An employee needs evidence supporting the valid employment arrangement, occupational classification, salary and education requirements. ADRO specifies a MOHRE employment contract or equivalent showing the job title and monthly income, plus an attested bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Ask the employer for the official records relevant to the role. A salary certificate should not contradict the contract without explanation. If the employment authority is not MOHRE, confirm the acceptable equivalent documents rather than creating a classification statement yourself.

Prepare degree authentication early. If the qualification uses another name, include the official evidence connecting it to the passport identity as requested. Translation and attestation should follow the actual requirements for that document.

Freelance and self-employment evidence

Independent applicants need the required MOHRE permit, accepted qualification and financial evidence. The financial route may concern qualifying annual income over the preceding two years or solvency for the residence term.

An income schedule is easier to assess when it connects invoices, payment-platform records and bank receipts. Explain the periods, currencies and any differences between billed and received amounts. Personal transfers should not be silently labelled earnings.

For solvency, ask what the authority currently accepts. The reviewed guidance does not provide a universal bank-balance amount or a standard document bundle that guarantees acceptance. Keep the official response with the application so a private checklist does not become the supposed rule.

Investor and partner evidence

The issuance card lists a trade licence and partnership or investment agreement for the investor category. The investment evidence must support the relevant contribution condition, not merely establish that a business exists.

Compare the licence, agreement and contribution records. Do they identify the same entity, the same applicant and the current shareholding? If a capital increase or share transfer has occurred, obtain the updated formal records. An old licence plus a draft agreement may leave the current position unresolved.

For non-cash contributions, ask how the required valuation should be provided. Do not present a founder's estimate of software or goodwill as an accepted official valuation without confirmation.

Medical, insurance and family documents

Medical fitness, health insurance, identity-card procedures and family sponsorship should be checked against the service and people involved. Requirements may arise at different stages. Treating them as one initial upload can produce unnecessary purchases or missing follow-up steps.

Dependants need their own files. Relationship records, such as marriage or birth certificates, may require authentication and translation. Keep each person's expiry dates visible, because the principal applicant's progress does not automatically preserve a dependant's existing permission.

A final consistency review

Before submission, open every file and verify legibility, complete pages and correct identity. Use descriptive filenames so a reviewer can distinguish the degree from a salary certificate. Follow the portal's format and size limits without making text unreadable through excessive compression.

Mark each requirement as evidenced, awaiting an issuer, or requiring clarification. An unresolved eligibility condition should not be hidden by uploading unrelated paperwork. The Green residence explanation provides the wider sequence, while the live category checklist controls the documents needed for your actual case.

Separate original records from explanations

An applicant-prepared summary can explain a payment trail or name variation, but it should remain visibly separate from the issuer's original record. Label explanatory schedules clearly and avoid inserting annotations into bank statements, certificates or permits. Where a source document is incomplete, obtain the proper replacement from its issuer. Keeping this distinction makes it easier to answer follow-up questions because the reviewer can see which facts come from an official or commercial record and which statements are the applicant's own explanation.

Where income arrives through client platforms, the freelancer requirements explain how those records relate to the independent-work category.
